5 out of 5 stars Our 2 year old loves this   May 20, 2008

I read the review by the parent with a daughter who is frustrated by this puzzle. Any toy, book, CD or DVD is subject to the enjoyment of an individual child.

In our case, our 2 year old boy has enjoyed this puzzle immensely since he was 18 months. The reviewer is correct about the pieces being asymmetrical. For our little guy, it wasn't a big deal. The ones that were easy, he did. The others, we showed him. He eventually learned the concept of turning pieces around. But, that's just him. There are DVDs and books that reviewers swear by and he's not interested.

The puzzle is colorful, well made, and he enjoys the "peek a boo" aspect of seeing what animal is under each piece.

We used this puzzle as a wind-down before bedtime and said "good night" to all of the animals in the pictures before putting the pieces over them. Worked well.

The only problem with this toy was that the dog enjoyed it, as well. A few pieces are now deposited in the landfill, partially digested.

We'll have to get another puzzle.

5 out of 5 stars nice looking puzzle   December 18, 2009

I really like the way this puzzle looks, it's bright and silly and charming. The details like the sunflowers and corn in the back add a lot of visual appeal. My 8 month old can't do much with it yet but look at it (and put the pieces in her mouth), so I appreciate these things! I pull the puzzle peices off for her and say, "look a cow!" and then say "moo!". Makes her smile. I'm not worried about how the puzzle pieces fit as I was planning on doing this puzzle for her anyway. Although I can see that it would take more trial and error then some other melissa and doug puzzles for a child to figure it out. It's a great puzzle to do with your child.

5 out of 5 stars challenging but fun   March 5, 2010

This is another great puzzle from Melissa and Doug. It's challenging because the shapes are a little cock-eyed and because the picture underneath does not match the puzzle piece. Sometimes my 2 year old is a little frustrated by it, but I think that's a good thing. It's a great puzzle to grow into and a good one to make the bridge from toddler toys to kid toys.

4 out of 5 stars Difficult but still fun.   April 8, 2009

It's true that most of these pieces are just slightly off square, so even an adult has to really look at them to know which way they go. My 20-mo. old still seems to enjoy it though. She does the easier ones with more unique shapes and the square ones she asks for me to help, and I am trying to teach her to spin them around and try all the sides to see which way fits. The pictures are cute and playing peek-a-boo with the animals behind the doors is fun. I think that it may be best for a child older than two. If your child really gets frustrated over not being able to do something by himself then this may not be the best choice.

3 out of 5 stars Peek-a-Boo for 5 year olds   April 19, 2007

I got this puzzle for my 2-yr-old because she loves farm animals, peek-a-boo, and puzzles...so I thought, what a great combination this would be! But it's a very difficult puzzle and she can't put it together. It looks like simple squares and rectangles, but they are cut a little crooked in such a way that they have to be turned exactly the right direction to fit in the puzzle...so I put it back together every time which defeats the purpose of a puzzle for her.
